The Life of Iwori Meji

Iwori in Orun
While in heaven, Iwori was the most ancient Olodu (Apostle) of Orunmila. He was very efficient in the art and practices of Ifa. He trained several celestial priests and also had many subordinates working for him. However, he was very conceited, which explains why he eventually lost his seniority to Ejiogbe and Oyekun Meyi, who were, on the other hand, much younger than him in heaven. He did many works in heaven, although the stories of these do not exist since he did not allow his followers in heaven to come to earth, who would have revealed his celestial works here. However, some of his celestial works have been told by those who have benefited from them.

01The Great Secret of Ozain

Ebbó: Three roosters, one hen, beads, beef, arrows, pigeon eggs, turtle, all kinds of food, kola cloth, much money.
Note: Ogodo is the secret of Shango and Ozain in this Ifá — an agborán (wooden figure) that lives with Shango and Ozain, loaded with ewe pomasi, atiponlá, pitahaya, curujey, aragbá, and rosemary.
Olara Awo had power over the people of that land because he always resolved their problems through the ceremonies he performed at the Great Secret of Ozain — a secret called Ogodo, which was also a great secret of Shango. The people of that land did well until one day there came to live there a very strange woman, named Aya Obini Shekereluba Idi, who was short and broad-bottomed. She too had a power, granted to her by Shango, by which she could dominate the men of any land where she lived. She arrived singing: "Moforibale Ogodo sheke sheke unlode Olara Awo."
In that moment Olara Awo saw her and was paralyzed. He gathered his belongings and went after her, for she invited him to sexual relations, and after that he no longer attended to his secret, and the people of Oyumpan began to leave for other lands because they were beginning to live badly. Thus that land began to be lost.
One day Olofin said: "Shango, let us go and see how things are in Oyumpan." Both went, singing: "Alako koyeri Oluban tebano Yumpan inle Olofin tedeyu." Along the way Olofin met many people walking weeping. Olofin ordered Shango to fetch Ozain, and the two went to Oyumpan to investigate. They found Olara Awo near the river, walking behind the woman. Olara Awo saw them, knelt and gave moforibale, and they took him in.
Ozain performed oparaldo on him, while Shango did sarayeye with a hen. When they finished, Olara Awo began to feel cleared and his mind became fresh again. Shango and Oggun put ashé atare and palm oil in his mouth. Olara Awo then went with Shango and Ozain before his secret and gave two roosters to Ogodo together with Shango and Ozain. At that very moment Aya Obini Shekereluba Idi arrived in search of him, and on hearing the chants she was deranged, fell with menstruation (ashupa), and ran into the bush, where Obatalá took her in. She never again disturbed the path of Olara Awo, and the land of Ayumpan returned to tranquility, prosperity, and happiness — that was the land of Iwori Meyi.
Note: On this path, two roosters must always be given to Shango, together with Ozain and Egungun, so that one may have dominion over one's house and over one's godchildren. The osorbo of this odu is to live with a short, broad-bottomed woman who is the shadow of unrest in this Ifá.
